CHOSEN CHILDREN ACQUIRE SKILLS IN BAKING AND INCREASE KNOWLEDGE ON THEIR HEALTH

Most needy children around the globe have only learnt to survive with some growing up without experiencing any form of love, support or encouragement. The Ennoble Team as part of the Baking With The Needy Project visited the Chosen Children’s Home at Darkuman, Accra – Ghana. The visit brought lots of laughter and happiness to over 60 kids at the orphanage. It also built their confidence and improved knowledge on their sexual and reproductive health and personal hygiene. Additionally, they were mentored and empowered to aim higher always whiles they take their education serious and acquired basic skills in baking.

The kids were divided into two groups and taken through the basics of baking meat pie and chips. They were allowed to try their hands on it and have fun. Interestingly, most of the children were enthused and wanted to learn more. Through their numerous questions about the process of making the meat pie and chips, it was clear that they had interest in picking up such vocational skills and putting it to use once they get the opportunity. The team was more thrilled when the Care Takers at the home also showed interest in learning and participated as well.

Whiles the pastries were in the oven, the team took time to educate the children on their sexual and reproductive health rights and personal hygiene. A member of the Ennoble Team, who is a health tutor, took the children through issues concerning menstruation among the girls and also the reproductive health of both genders. Some of these young girls already had babies and thus the need to pay much attention to them to help prevent more of such occurrences. The team made sure to create a friendly and open environment for the children to be able to ask questions bothering their minds and seek answers to their confusions. Even the care takers had questions and sought for more knowledge.

Further, there was a mentorship session on carrier choices and how to attain their aims to go higher in life. They were advised to take their education or vocation seriously and be more focus as they grow, since that is the only way to achieve their individual goals.

Soon after the mentorship, empowerment and education session, haaaa the bakes were ready. The meat pie and chips were shared among the children with some drinks and ice cream to enjoy themselves and have fun together. It was time for the team to say bye bye to the children even though the looks on their faces tells they wanted more! They appealed to the team to visit them more often and teach them several other skills and impact more knowledge.

Ennoble Africa Foundation will be carrying out this activity every quarter targeting several other homes and centers with the less privileged. The Ennoble team is therefore requesting for more support and donations.

Baking with these kids were really fun and all thanks to our sponsors which includes; Verna Mineral Water (Twillium Ghana), Yamvita (Promasidor), GB Foods, Bee Quench, Olam Grains and Fan Milk Ghana. The kids were full of gratitude towards these sponsors and Ennoble Africa Foundation for organizing such a wonderful programme.
